What is Ready to COPE?

Ready to COPE is a free pregnancy and parenting guide delivered weekly via email or text to new and expectant parents.

The psychoeducation series supports new and expectant parents throughout the perinatal period with timely, relevant updates about what to expect and how to cope with the range of physical and emotional changes and challenges of each week of pregnancy, birth and the first 12 months of parenthood.

Ready to COPE offers insight, comfort and coping strategies, plus guidance on when and how to get help.

Key features and benefits of Ready to COPE

Fully funded by the Commonwealth Government, Ready to COPE is underpinned by the Australian Perinatal Mental Health Clinical Practice Guideline. Its information is developed to inform and empower consumers and families and support health professionals.

Ready to COPE:

  • Is free and confidential
  • Delivered weekly via email or text
  • Links to clinicians and organisations with perinatal mental health expertise via the COPE Directory so they can seek help
  • Offers mental health and wellbeing self-checks to help subscribers identify possible signs of stress, anxiety or depression and if they might benefit from addition information or support.
  • Includes perinatal mental health fact sheets to help them understand common mental health conditions and recognise signs or symptoms in themselves or others.

Ready to COPE implemented with iCOPE screening can help provide timely access to information and support and extend the reach of perinatal mental health initiatives.

This integration demonstrates the clear potential to strengthen and support early intervention pathways in a way that is acceptable to parents.

For First Nations audiences

Created in partnership with Baby Coming, You Ready?, a West Australian research consortium at Murdoch University, this series draws on the work of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal professionals addressing barriers to trusting engagement, effective assessment, routine screening and woman-centered care. Research shows email is an effective, easy-to-access format for Aboriginal and remote communities.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum

COPE has created special versions of Ready to COPE for women experiencing Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

Developed in partnership Hyperemesis Australia, this series provides specialist information and connects parents to additional support.

Expecting multiples

Developed in partnership with the Australian Multiple Birth Association (AMBA), this series help partners cope with the challenges and realities of expecting or raising twins, triplets or other multiples.

As with all Ready to COPE content, these versions combine clinical evidence, lived experience and practical information to meet these specific needs.
